About Us
Since 2007, Payson Christian Clinic has provided compassionate, high-quality primary care to uninsured individuals and families in our community. Local physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, and other medical professionals generously donate their time and expertise so that patients can receive excellent medical care, regardless of their ability to pay.
Payson Christian Clinic is fully licensed within the State of Arizona, which means our patients receive care that meets the professional, safety, documentation, privacy, and quality standards required of licensed medical facilities. Although our services are provided at no cost, we are committed to offering the same careful, responsible, and compassionate care patients should expect from any trusted healthcare provider.
As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Payson Christian Clinic is funded entirely through community support. Local churches, private donors, Arizona tax credit contributions, community partners, prayer partners, and volunteers make our work possible.
Our history
Payson Christian Clinic began in 2007 when local founders recognized that uninsured and underinsured neighbors were going without basic medical care. They formed a Christian medical ministry and opened the clinic with volunteer support.
The nonprofit clinic grew through grants, donations, Arizona Charitable Tax Credit gifts, and the service of local medical professionals and community members. That same spirit of shared responsibility continues to sustain the clinic today.
Community Partners
Payson Christian Clinic is grateful for the local healthcare and community partners who extend special reduced pricing to our patients. These partnerships help make laboratory testing, imaging, medications, specialty services, and other essential care more affordable, allowing patients to receive services that may not be available directly through the clinic.
Patient fees & care
There is no required fee for clinic care. Patients may choose to make a suggested $10 donation, but a donation is never required to receive services.
Prospective patients may apply for admission to the clinic. Staff review each application, and patients are informed if they qualify for services. The clinic may discharge a patient who does not follow clinic rules or medical guidance.

Teaching Institution
Payson Christian Clinic is proud to serve as a clinical teaching institution for the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix and Marquette University’s Physician Assistant Studies Program.
Medical and physician assistant students take an active role in patient appointments, gathering health histories, conducting examinations, and presenting their findings and recommended care plans to supervising physicians and licensed medical providers. Every diagnosis and treatment plan is carefully reviewed, overseen, and approved by a qualified provider.
Payson Christian Clinic also serves as a teaching institution for Banner Desert’s Internal Medicine Rural Track Residency and the Banner Payson Family Medicine Residency. Resident physicians have graduated from medical school and provide patient care as licensed doctors while completing advanced, supervised training in internal medicine or family medicine.
Through these partnerships, we are helping prepare the next generation of healthcare leaders to care for all patients with excellence, compassion, and respect.

President
As Board President and Medical Director, Dr. Judy Hunt brings more than 30 years of experience serving and investing in the Payson community as a physician. One of the clinic’s founding members, she also directs the medical student and internal medicine resident programs, helping prepare future providers while ensuring the clinic’s mission, patient dignity, responsible governance, and long-term stewardship remain at the center of every decision.
Secretary
As secretary, Megan Woods supports clear board communication and careful organizational records. As a local business owner alongside her husband, she brings a strong community perspective to the board while helping directors stay connected to shared priorities, document important decisions, and maintain the thoughtful oversight needed to sustain the clinic’s work for uninsured neighbors.
Board Member
Dr. Alan Michels, one of Payson Christian Clinic’s founding members, serves the clinic through board leadership grounded in sound judgment, accountability, and compassionate healthcare. As the owner of Ponderosa Family Care Clinic, he also generously volunteers his time to see patients and supervise medical students, helping community support translate into dependable care while protecting the clinic’s mission and strengthening the next generation of medical providers.
Board Member
Dr. Larry Shank, an orthopedic specialist, contributes to the board’s ongoing work of guiding the clinic with care and responsibility. He and his wife also generously volunteer their services to support patients, while his board leadership helps address medical and community needs, strengthen organizational planning, and preserve the welcoming, faith-centered care patients experience at the clinic.

Rob Fanizza has lived in Payson since he was a teenager and has invested deeply in the community he calls home. As a local healthcare business owner, he brings valuable experience to the board, with particular attention to financial stewardship, practical planning, and ensuring the clinic’s resources are used effectively to keep high-quality primary care accessible to those who need it.

Kyle Washatka brings business insight, ethical discernment, and a logical, practical approach to problem-solving to the board. His expertise in processes and documentation helps the directors evaluate opportunities, clarify responsibilities, strengthen accountability, and support thoughtful stewardship and a sustainable future for the clinic’s services.

Claudia Robles is a lifelong Payson resident—and yes, she knows half the town. As a local real estate agent and active clinic volunteer, she brings deep community knowledge, firsthand experience, and a compassionate, boots-on-the-ground perspective to the board. Her practical insight helps ensure decisions remain grounded in the daily realities of the clinic and the needs of the patients it serves.
